Ty Mawr Hotel dates back to 1658 and is set in just under 1 acre of land, with six bedrooms having been converted to a hotel by Jill and Cliff Ross in 1979. They purchased the property in 1976 at auction for £10,000 and then spent a few years renovating, opening in April 1976.
Having many owners over the years the hotel has benefited from a focus on great food in a natural setting showcasing the best Wales and particularly Carmarthenshire has to offer. Coedwig Brechfa has been a bakery and a microbrewery in its time, Botanical Gardens was once two bedrooms before being converted to one.
Going back even further the hotel was involved in the Rebecca riots and had been three dwellings for a period.
Our garden is maturing year on year and the River Marlais running along the back is a perfect sound to wake to or enjoy an afternoon pot of tea. Our wood fires burn bright in the winter showing off the beautiful stonework throughout.
We have worked hard at our drinks range from Gins to Wines to our non-alcoholic offer and of course our cocktails.
Whatever the season Brechfa and Carmarthen has something to offer, and our hotel will always offer a friendly and welcoming stay.
Nearby is some of the best countryside for walking and cycling as well as a great location for super food. A great example is the Welsh Black Beef which are supplied by John James of Fferm Tyllwyd, just 3 miles from the Tŷ Mawr front door (oh and John’s Beef has won many awards for the Best Fillet in Europe, Taste of Wales and even has had interest from the Hairy Bikers!).
So why not visit us and see for yourself what made us fall in love with Tŷ Mawr Country Hotel and Brechfa.
